Immerse Yourself in the Region’s History through our Heritage Circuits

For history buffs and those who love discovering intriguing anecdotes, the region’s heritage circuits will take you on a fascinating journey through time. In Sutton, three circuits invite you to reconnect with the past by learning more about our first settlers, genuine brothel owners, and First World War soldiers.

The Prohibition Heritage Trail deserves a special mention! The circuit covers 130 km with ten interpretation panels placed in strategic areas of the route and audio capsules that will take you along a contraband route covering the period between 1850 and 1930. Follow Alfred Carpentier, a fictional but colourful smuggler, as he reveals the secrets of this tumultuous era. You’ll also discover the story of Queen Lil and her “Palace of Sin” in Glen Sutton, and the surreal life of Conrad Labelle, a bootlegger and loyal ally of Al Capone.

In Saint-Armand, the oldest settler site in the region, you can download the Balado Discovery application. You’ll be able to access an audio guide that will have you discover 12 points of interest relating to our built heritage, including the Simon Lyster Cabin, Québec’s oldest construction built in the loyalist architectural style.
