Musée Lac-Brome Museum
Are you interested in learning about the history of the Loyalists who settled in Brome County during the late 1700s? Do you want to learn more about early industry and education in the area? Maybe you’re looking to take a stroll through the past?
In one afternoon, you can do just that in Knowlton, the historic heart of Brome Lake, and learn how the people who settled in Brome County lived in the early 19th century. The Brome County Historical Society, founded at a picnic in August 1897, owns and operates the Lac-Brome Museum.
The Museum is made up of several historic buildings that you can visit, with exhibits on: trades and industry, military history, including a Fokker DVII biplane, early education, the story of the British Home Children, and more. The interactive Children’s Museum and Temporary Exhibition Hall (with a new exhibit every year) are open year-round. Time permitting, take a 5-minute drive from the heart of town to the Tibbits Hill Schoolhouse, which is open to the public on Sunday afternoons during the summer.
Maybe you’re researching a particular historical element or details about your family? Be sure to make an appointment at the accredited Archives Centre located in the Old County Courthouse, open Monday to Friday.
