FIVE NOT-TO-BE-MISSED HIKING TRAILS TO ENJOY THIS WINTER

More than ever, nature is inviting us to reenergize and care for our wellbeing. Hiking is an ideal activity to enjoy nature during winter. Follow us as we offer you a brief overview of some outings to include in your plans for a perfect winter!

PARC D’ENVIRONNEMENT NATUREL DE SUTTON — THE DOS DE L’ORIGNAL LOOP

Located only a few minutes outside the town of Sutton, the Parc d’environnement naturel de Sutton (PENS) is the ideal playground for all outdoor activity enthusiasts. Plan a half-day to complete this more than 7 km loop with a steep climb and descent, so you can pause to admire the different magnificent views overlooking the Sutton skill hill and Mount Orford. Please note that the PENS trails can be muddy or icy during the winter months. Therefore, a good pair of boots, walking poles, and crampons are essential for a safe and fun outing.

FRELIGHSBURG’S MUNICIPAL PARK TRAILS

Ideal for families or people looking for less demanding trails, these paths, totalling about four kilometres, offer a rich natural setting with a majestic mixed-essence forest, the Pike River, and impressive varieties of little-known bird species. A stairway will take visitors up to their ultimate reward offering a panoramic view overlooking the town of Frelighsburg, its two church bell towers and Mount Pinacle. Dogs are welcome on a leach.

COLDBROOK PATH

This 3.3 km wooded trail will take you from the village of Knowlton to Trestle Cove along the shores of Brome Lake and Douglass Beach. Well marked without any steep sections, this linear trail will please outdoor enthusiasts looking for a family escapade, for taking the dog out, or simply to fill up on vitamin D! The Coldbrook Path is accessible for walking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

SENTIER DU MONT GALE – SUMMIT LOOP

This is the perfect trail for intermediate level hikers looking for beautiful landscapes. The Boucle du Sommet, the summit loop, is one of the prettiest municipal trails of Ville de Bromont with its two outlooks: the Halte du Berger and the Sommet du Lac Gale. And, since the BALNEA spa is only a few minutes from the trail, why not reserve a comforting massage to relax your after-hike muscles!

PLEIN AIR SUTTON

Sutton offers an exceptional microcosm for practising your favourite winter sports! Its network of hiking trails set in the heart of the mountain preserves a century-old forest. You can enjoy more than twelve kilometres of trails with easy and intermediate level routes set along the Cook River. Plein Air Sutton also offers snowshoe and crampon rentals at their Welcome Centre for those who would like to initiate themselves to these winter activities before investing in equipment for the rest of the season.
