Getaway to Sutton in an electric van
Nestled right in the heart of the Eastern Townships, Brome-Missisquoi is a region where a pristine nature and the quality of life come together in perfect harmony! I was won over on my first visit, and although I quickly became a regular, nothing makes me happier than discovering new activities. If you’re looking for a getaway that combines adventure, relaxation and exceptional scenery, here’s a short glimpse of what this region has to offer!
Zero Emission Vanlife Thanks to Bromont Campervan
The adventure gets underway in Bromont, where we take possession of a100% electrically powered converted van by Bromont Campervan awaits. It’s a first for me! A fully autonomous vanlife experience powered by electricity. With our mobile “accommodation” we’re ready to explore the region without using any fuel. A big plus for anyone wishing to reduce their environmental footprint while making the most of a vanlife getaway.
Mount SUTTON, the Ultimate Adrenaline Rush
Our first destination is the Mont SUTTON mountain resort, a true playground for highly motivated thrill seekers. We’re launched into the void (almost!) on the zipline coaster, a first in North America. Imagine a zipline rollercoaster with steep descents, tight turns around trees and 450-degree loops over a distance of 655 metres. We feel like we’re flying through the forest on a burst of pure adrenaline!
After having experienced this unique moment, we change our gear to take on the Giant Zipline. As we head up the mountain in the chairlift that will take us to the launch platform, we’re awed by the spectacular panoramic views overlooking the Mount Sutton Massif and the Green Mountain Reserve. This, however, can’t be compared to the experience of heading down the mountain which really took our breath away! Covering a distance of 1 km, the Giant Zipline is the steepest one in all of Canada. Buckle up your belts for a descent hitting speeds of up to 100 km/h (!), followed by a second zipline taking you further down for another 400 metres.
The day ends in a festive ambiance at the foot of the mountain. We enjoy a fine meal with refreshing drinks at the Cube-Ik outdoor restaurant, while enjoying a live music show, surrounded by mountain enthusiasts making the most of this magnificent summer day!
The Sun… and the Stars
After a hearty meal, we offer ourselves a chairlift ride up the hill to enjoy an evening hike that will take us to the Round Top where we can admire the setting sun, one of my favourite Québec hikes! The incredible views overlooking the surrounding mountain landscapes are simply magical and quite unique, especially during the Golden Hour.
When we return from our hike, we can finally take advantage of all the amenities in our electric van as we prepare a late evening snack. Our fully equipped vehicle allows us to truly relax awhile before our last activity of the day, the ObservÉtoiles.
If you’re unfamiliar with this activity, you must make a note to try the first augmented reality open sky planetarium! Located in Glen Sutton, the Au Diable Vert outdoor resort is the only venue offering this spectacular nocturnal show. Comfortably settled in the heated seats, we discover a star-filled sky through our augmented reality helmets, which indicate the constellations and stars’ names while linking them to their real positions. Our eyes bright with excitement, after this fascinating experience, we head back to Mount Sutton (because yes, it’s possible to spend the night directly at the mountain resort inside our van!) to enjoy a lovely night’s sleep, dreaming the sweetest dreams.
Still More to Discover
The next morning, we head back on the road, making a couple of stops to discover some of the vineyards set on the Route des Vins de Brome-Missisquoi . On the way, we pass through the charming towns of Sutton and Knowlton. In fact, the region abounds with delicious local treats and picturesque landscapes, enhancing our travel experience!
After returning our van without any hassles to Bromont Campervan, we make our farewells to this exceptional region. Thank you, Brome-Missisquoi, for this unforgettable adventure. We’ll be returning very soon for more amazing discoveries!
