Let’s raise our glasses to local brewers

Québec’s fête nationale is synonymous with traditions and festivities, and it should be celebrated in grand style. And what better way to celebrate La Belle Province than with products from our region. Here’s a profile of three companies from the area with a few suggestions for beerophiles and epicureans.

BRASSERIE DUNHAM

Brasserie dunham

The people at Brasserie Dunham cultivate a boundless enthusiasm for creating quality beers, and they’ve been doing this since the place opened in 2010. They put great effort into invigorating your taste buds and stimulating your senses.

LEO’S EARLY BREAKFAST IPA
A beer that definitely piques our curiosity. The brasserie has partnered with Camellia Sinensis to design an IPA from guava and Earl Grey tea.

AMERICAN PALE ALE
The brasserie won a gold medal at the 2015 Canadian Brewing Awards, in the American Pale Ale (Bitter) category. With an alcohol content of 5.5%, this beer offers an irresistible floral and lemony bouquet. A must.

Dunham, beyond the shadow of a doubt, is one of the nicest towns in the area. So, make it a point to stop at the Brasserie’s bar to savour its draught beer. Or, go to the dépanneurs and supermarkets to fill your cooler with the Brasserie’s fine products!

WEST SHEFFORD BREWING COMPANY

eb80afe51660d8054b231907b62ea197

Founded in 2012, the microbrewery is the result of an association between Martin Proulx (Edgar Hyperlodge), Éric Lefrançois (Laurea, Lorbeer) and Jeff Stinco (the guitarist of the band, Simple Plan, and owners of several restaurants). They collaborate with master brewer Jean-François Théoret to make top-notch beers.

CETTE SORTE-LÀ
A refreshing and savoury blond ale with 4.8% alcohol content. Tasting it, you’ll detect aromas of herbal hops and vinified fruits with hints of honey and cereal.

L’AUTRE SORTE
An excellent red beer with a light fruit flavour and a finish of hazelnut.

The beers are distributed in more than 2,500 sales outlets in the province of Québec. The company pulled off a major coup this year by becoming the official beer of the C2MTL event.

FARNHAM LAGER

FarnhamAleLager-Logo1

Farnham Ale & Lager, which opened in the autumn of 2013, is the youngest of the brewers in the Brome-Missisquoi region. The company’s mission is to make craft beer accessible to everyone.

SUMMER PALE ALE
Only available from May to September, this earthy bitter beer delivers aromas of hops evoking tropical fruits. And at 4.5% alcohol, it will refresh you without overpowering you.

FARNHAM SCOTCH ALE
This is a beer with bite, containing 8.4% alcohol. Like its Dunham colleagues, the microbrewery also took top honours at the Canadian Brewing Awards in the best Scotch Ale in Canada category. Definitely something to be proud of!

The Farnham Ale & Lager pub is a must stop if you’re going through Farnham. Otherwise, the microbrewery’s products are available at many sales outlets across the province of Québec.
