Let us count the ways. The poutine is to die for, the botanic gardens put cartoon hearts in our eyes, and the Greater Montreal area is full of wide open spaces. At Expedia.ca, we love the Eastern Townships for a stay in a comfy hotel and a good glass of fermented gold. So naturally we recommend the birthplace of Quebec wine-making, our beloved Brome-Missisquoi, to like-minded travellers! Sure, sure, there’s more to do here than saunter between the 21 wineries. In fact, we say spending 36 hours in the Eastern Townships should include everything from mountain trekking to spa treatments at scenic inns.

Friday

Why not make yourself at home the moment you arrive in the Brome-Missisquoi region on Friday afternoon? If you’re staying in Bromont, you can’t go wrong by checking into the Hotel Château-Bromont. The place has a scenic terrace with four hot tubs, after all. If you’re making Sutton your home away from home, the Le Pleasant Hotel and Café is as cozy a spot as they come; the hotel is in a 20th century Victorian home and has a beautiful blend of original floors and modern décor.

Hotel Château-Bromont

With your suitcases tucked away in the corner of your room, it’s time to celebrate your arrival with a good meal. Cap off your first night in the Eastern Townships with a visit to Pub Le Belvedere in Bedford, where you can sip on a microbrew as you listen to the Pike River rush past the outdoor deck.

Saturday

Start your Saturday with breakfast and a side of adrenaline. After a delightful breakfast on the front porch of the Le Pleasant Hotel and Café, set your sights on local trails. Bromont has five trail networks, ripe for the hiking. The Mont Berthier path is just 4 km long and makes for a nice morning trek.

Come down from your hiking high and head straight for a free bike at the Bruck Museum tourist information office or Davignon Park. After some time pedaling around town, you deserve a leisurely lunch picnic next to Lac Davignon.

Continue your journey via cycle, or trade in your bicycle tires for a car and designated driver. You’re off to explore the region’s legendary wine route! A whopping 21 wineries are on the portion of the route that weaves through the Brome-Missisquoi area. Sip on a nice rosé at Domaine Vitis in the north, then head southeast to Vignoble Domaine Bresee and savour one of six locally produced vinos as you drink in the beauty of the Sutton Mountains.

Stop by Le Musée du Chocolat (AKA the Chocolate Museum) before it closes at 5:30, where you can not only witness the art of chocolate moulding but sink your teeth into some divine confections. How does a cognac truffle or square of chai chocolate sound? Eat a homemade quiche first, or dive right into the cocoa. No one will judge.

Sunday

Spend your last few hours in Brome-Missisquoi pampering yourself before you head back to real life.
