{"id":5138,"date":"2019-09-19T12:10:20","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T16:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/explore-suttons-charms-on-cross-country-skis\/"},"modified":"2019-09-19T12:10:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T16:10:20","slug":"explore-suttons-charms-on-cross-country-skis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/en\/blogue\/explore-suttons-charms-on-cross-country-skis\/","title":{"rendered":"Explore Sutton\u2019s charms on cross-country skis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I braved temperatures approaching -20\u00b0C to explore the 21 kilometres of cross-country ski trails of <a href=\"http:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/en\/attraits\/what-to-do-nature-sports-and-outdoors-recreational-and-nature-activities-sutton-en-haut\/\" target=\"_blank\">Plein air Sutton<\/a> (previously called Sutton en haut). The site, which has more than 100 acres, has existed since 1973 and is set in a magnificent century-old forest close to the ski hill.<\/p>\n<p>When I got there, I immediately headed to the cozy reception chalet, where I was warmly received by Micheline at the reception desk. This was where I rented my equipment. She advised me about which trails I should go on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7340\" src=\"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/app\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Micheline_cote_sutton.jpg\" alt=\"Micheline_cote_sutton\" width=\"1000\" height=\"668\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Micheline from Plein air Sutton &#8211; Photo Michel St-Jean<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quite promptly, I was able to get on the trails and start exploring Sutton\u2019s magnificent snow-laden forests. After I had skied for just a few metres, the exercise had warmed my body, and I no longer felt the bracing cold.<\/p>\n<p>The directional signage was well done, and with the help of a small map which had been provided at the entrance, I was easily able to make my way along a good portion of the 21 kilometres of freshly groomed trails.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7339\" src=\"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/app\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Plein-Air-Sutton-Remi-Jacques.jpg\" alt=\"Plein Air Sutton R\u00e9mi Jacques\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I would have liked to have taken more photos of the superb landscape but, unfortunately, my camera was frozen. So, I simply took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the experience to the fullest. I especially liked the charm and tranquility of the place. By the time I got back, I was totally zen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7341\" src=\"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/app\/uploads\/2019\/09\/VueRoundtop.jpg\" alt=\"VueRoundtop\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Photo : Plein air Sutton<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019m also planning to go back this winter to explore the snowshoe trails and try out fatbike trails.<\/p>\n<h2>Moonlight outings<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-7337\" src=\"https:\/\/tourismebrome-missisquoi.ca\/app\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Preparation-pleinelune-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Randonn\u00e9e pleine lune \u00e0 Sutton\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Photo : Plein air Sutton<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I strongly recommend that you go to Plein air Sutton for one of its full-moon nights. Whenever there is a full moon during the winter months, Plein air Sutton organizes an evening outing by the light of the moon. Three different outings are offered (45, 60 and\/or 90 minutes). When you come back, a steaming hot chocolate is served around a campfire. The activity costs just $5 and it makes for a great family outing.
